Modern slavery is a serious crime where someone is exploited for someone else's gain. It can take on many forms, including forced labour and servitude.
Victims are often hidden not seen or noticed and are too frightened to speak out.
Because of modern slavery's hidden nature, it is difficult to get specific data on the actual number of people who are victimised. However, it is estimated that there are between 10,000 and 13,000 victims of modern slavery in the UK.
Modern slavery is a relatively new issue for some companies and for many HR Advisors and Line Managers, it is a subject they may not have received formal training on.
My approach is to conduct an audit of your workplace, procedures and most importantly, meet with your employees. This process enables me to highlight any possible modern slavery issues. I can also work with your team on how to spot the signs and deal with any potential cases.
